About the Artist

LaForrest Church is a figurative artist with a unique perspective on the human form and its relationship with conflicting emotions, situations. Inspired by the works of Francis Bacon, Mark Wallinger, Hans Bellmer, Stephen De Staebler, and several others, Church uses a number of mediums including oil paint, pastels, and acrylic paints to express ideas that critique the constructs of Western religion, delves into the complexities of human emotion, and elaborates on the lived experience of queer persons.

Through their art, Church seeks to challenge the viewer's perception of the human form and provoke thought and discussion around the issues that plague us as individuals when faced with lust, regret, and guilt. Their work often explores the interplay of the human form and clashing emotions such as disgust and pleasure, highlighting the ways in which we attempt to navigate these conflicts in our lives through internal and external means. Focused on understanding the human psyche and a keen eye for detail, Church's art is both raw and visceral, speaking to the emotional and psychological turmoil that we all face as human beings.
